On a brilliant day this past May 17th, 2024, the historic grounds of Nikko Toshogu Shrine became a spectacle of cultural heritage during the exhilarating Yabusame event. As part of the shrine’s annual spring festival, Yabusame was performed by members of the Ogasawara-ryu, a school renowned for its 800-year legacy. The event captivated both locals and tourists with the dramatic skill and precision of mounted archery.
The skilled horses and dedicated team from Shogun Stables were integral to the festivities, embodying the spirit and discipline of the samurai tradition. On the following day, during the magnificent Senin Gyoretsu (Thousand Samurai Procession), our horses proudly participated, showcasing their training and grace.
Missed these stunning displays? Don’t worry—the upcoming autumn festival will offer another opportunity to experience these thrilling traditions up close. Prepare to be captivated by the skill, history, and spirit of the samurai once more.
